167/365 - June 20, 2012 - Corinthian Columns This evening between work and meeting some guys from church for dinner, I took advantage of Lisa and the kids being at her parents and ventured downtown for my daily shot. This shot is of the front facade of First Baptist Church on Main Street.

159/365 - June 12, 2012 - Hall of Fame Tonight Lisa hosted a Pampered Chef show at our house, and being the smart man I am, I took Nate out for a ride to avoid the hen party. My brother also met up with us to ride around. I had hoped to get out and capture some good shots tonight, but my outing got off to a rocky start after getting rear-ended by a semi-truck on the interstate. Fortunately it was pretty minor, but enough to shake my inspiration for the evening. After driver around aimlessly downtown, I finally found some inspiration at the Women's Basketball Hall of Fame.

150/365 - June 3, 2012 - Gay Street Bridge If you can't tell, I have gotten myself into a panoramic state of mind this weekend. Today after having lunch at Calhoun's on the River, I captured these shots of the Gay Street Bridge crossing over the Tennessee River. Calhoun's is on the left (north) bank of the river in the photo. I wasn't exactly happy with some of the processing on this one, but considering the time it took, I just didn't have the desire to redo it. It's a compilation of 6 3-shot HDRs. I ran an HDR batch in Photomatix to create 6 TIFs and then merged the TIFs in Photoshop CS5.

148/365 - June 1, 2012 - Warehouse District at Dusk Tonight after work, Lisa and I took the kids out to dinner and a leisurely drive back home. Our drive took us downtown, which was about as busy with people traversing the streets as I have ever seen on a Friday night. I had not intended on taking any photos, but when crossing the Gay Street viaduct, there was an empty parking space that I quickly took advantage of. I only had my 17-40 mm lens with me, so I had to settle on a wide shot. This shot was taken with the camera propped up on the viaduct rail looking over the Southern Terminal and warehouse district. This is similar to another shot I took back in February but at night.

146/365 - May 30, 2012 - Lord Lindsey House This is a shot of the Lord Lindsey House, which is currently up for sale/lease. Its located on Hill Avenue just off of Henley Street. I had originally stopped here to get some shots of the Henley Street Bridge construction, but the house caught my eye and I ended up using this shot instead.

132/365 - May 16, 2012 - Immaculate Conception Church This afternoon on the way home, I made a quick detour downtown to get my shot of the day. I ended up in the old warehouse district and captured this shot looking up at the Immaculate Conception Church steeple up the hill from the street below.

118/365 - May 2, 2012 - Sequoyah Hills Park Today on my lunch break to get away from the hustle and bustle of the office, I grabbed my lunch and headed down to Sequoyah Hills Park. This shot is under a large tree on the banks of the Tennessee River at the west end of the park.

113/365 - April 27, 2012 - World's Fair Park After leaving work about an hour early for a mental health break, I decided to stop by the World's Fair Park since the weather today in Knoxville was the Chamber of Commerce type variety. I really had very little inspiration prior to getting outside, but once I put on my polarized sunglasses and noticed how deep blue the sky was this afternoon, I couldn't resist stopping to take some photos. Since I started this project, I have wanted to recreate one of my favorite all-time shots of the Sunsphere. The shot I like so well is actually already documented in my project on Day 5, iFramed. After getting the shot I wanted, I spent a few more minutes around the park and captured another shot that I liked as well. I couldn't decide on which to use, so I used both.

106/365 - April 20, 2012 - Open Your Eyes A few weeks back when I was doing a photo session at the World's Fair Park, I noticed the reflection of the Sunsphere in the Knoxville Museum of Art's windows overlooking the park. With the sky dotted with big, fluffy clouds mixed with some blue sky, I ventured back to the park during my lunch break to get the shot I envisioned a few weeks back. I have been on an HDR kick of late and thought it was applicable due to the vast light differences between the sky and building.

103/365 - April 17, 2012 - Corbel Stepped Gable This shot is of one of the corbel stepped gable walls on the Southern Railway Terminal downtown. This building was completed in 1904 and now is home to a local architecture firm.

97/365 - April 11, 2012 - Andrew Johnson Hotel This afternoon on my way home, I made a detour downtown to get a panoramic shot of the Knoxville waterfront from the Riverwalk at City View on the south bank of the Tennessee. As you can see, the panoramic didn't make it, even though it didn't turn out too bad. This shot was an impromptu shot taken from the window of my vehicle while sitting at a red light at the intersection of Gay Street and Hill Avenue. Nothing really special, but I liked the angle and the deep blue sky in the background. I'll save the panoramic shot for another day.

91/365 - April 5, 2012 - Ayres Hall Tower This is another on the way home shot. I had to pick up some pizzas at Mellow Mushroom on the strip, and while I was waiting, I drove up The Hill to capture this shot of the Ayres Hall clock tower.

84/365 - March 29, 2012 - Tennessee at Night After working a 15-hour day in which I started the day around 5:30 AM and didn't leave the office until close to 10:00 PM, I made a detour to Gay Street on my way home since Lisa and the kids were spending the night at Lisa's parents. This is an HDR image of the Tennessee Theater marque.

82B/365 - March 27, 2012 - Rail to Somewhere Today's alternate photo was really an afterthought as I was heading back to the car. I went to the World's Fair Park with intentions of capturing some spring blooms (and I did), but I crossed some railroad tracks on my way back to the parking lot and decided to squat down and place my camera on one of the rails and aimed without even looking through the view finder. This shot was the result. The depth of field coupled with the black and white rendition really intrigued me. You probably think so what, but I liked it.

82A/365 - March 27, 2012 - Knoxville in Spring Today I found myself in a good struggle after capturing my shots for the day. The struggle was the decision on which photo to use. I have made some difficult choices along the way, but for whatever reason, I just couldn't decide tonight. Since I make the rules, I decided to bend them somewhat and post dual photos today. This shot is of one of Knoxville's landmarks, the Sunsphere, in the background with a blooming Dogwood tree in the foreground.

80/365 - March 25, 2012 - Blue Reflections This afternoon, I took the kids downtown for some photo hunting. We parked on the Gay Street viaduct and spent time around it and the north end of Gay Street. This is a shot of the windows on the front of the Sterchi's Building.

78/365 - March 23, 2012 - Best Part of the Meal Today I ventured to the Old City again on my way home from work. This time I captured a shot of the old JFG Coffee factory facade. This is another HDR image that helped bring out the contrast in what was a fairly bland shot with the overcast skies. Turned out much better than I thought it would.

77/365 - March 22, 2012 - Patrick Sullivan's After Lisa dropped the kids off at the office at 5:00, I made a detour to the Old City on the way home in hopes of being inspired for today's photo. When I got to the corner of Jackson and Central, I found it. The sky was filled with storm clouds and thought it would offer some nice contrast in the background. After parallel parking the Sequoia on Jackson (which is no easy feat), I snapped a few shots on the opposite corner of the intersection from the now closed Patrick Sullivan's Saloon. This shot is an HDR image that I applied a tinted black and white filter to in Photoshop. I was really torn between the color version and this one, but decided this one gave a nostalgic feel. I really miss Patrick Sullivan's.

44/365 - February 18, 2012 - Tennessee After dropping Lisa off at a training show she was doing for one of her new jewelers, Nate and I made a detour downtown prior to going home for the afternoon. As you can tell from the photo, it was a beautiful day in Knoxville, at least until mid-afternoon when the clouds started rolling in. This is a shot of the Tennessee Theatre sign on Gay Street. I shot a similar shot years ago, but unfortunately, I cleared the memory card prior to downloading the files. I'm sure this one turned out better than the one from before.

47/365 - February 21, 2012 - Knoxville at Noon Today on my lunch break, I made a quick trip to the 11th Street Garage off of Cumberland Avenue to get a shot of the Knoxville skyline from the World's Fair Park perspective. After setting up on the tripod to help combat the heavy wind gusts, I decided to shoot a multi-shot panoramic. This shot is made up of 10 photos, which I processed individually in Lightroom prior to running the photo merge in Photoshop. I considered posting a black and white version, but the colors in this rendition were too good to pass up. Beautiful day in Knoxville...

34/365 - February 8, 2012 - Converging Rails Today during lunch, I ventured downtown to get my shot for the day. I ended up parking on the Gay Street Viaduct and getting this shot of the rail road lines below at the old train depot.

22/365 - January 27, 2012 - Naked Arches After leaving work early due to my early start to the day (I was in the office around 5:30 this morning), I made a detour downtown to capture a shot of the on-going construction to the Henley Street Bridge. The spotty cloud cover shielded the direct sunlight and provided a nice background sky. Given the backlit conditions which made it difficult to capture detail in the bridge without blowing out the highlights, I used 3 bracketed exposures, 1-1/3 stops apart to compile an HDR image.

5/365 - January 10, 2012 - iFramed Inspiration was a little low tonight as I have been editing photos from my Atlanta job a few weeks back. With the iPad close by, I pulled up one of my favorite photos from my SmugMug app and snapped the shot.
